How a build actually goes

You tell him about your water
The form below takes two minutes. Where you fish, how you fish, and how much weight is going in the boat. That last one decides more than people expect.

Harry calls you
Not a salesperson. Him. He has spent 7,500 days on the water and he will tell you if a different hull, or a different builder, is the better answer.

You hold your place
50% to start, 50% on delivery. That first half buys the materials and puts your boat in the queue. Harry walks you through all of it on the phone first, and no money moves until you have both talked and you are sure.

He builds it by hand
Hand-laid, two on the shop floor at a time. You will get photos as it comes together, because most people want them.

Harry gives you wire instructions himself, and he'll confirm them with you on the phone before you send a dollar. If banking details ever show up in an email, changed or otherwise, call him at 850-545-8578 first. He would rather have the extra phone call.
Questions Harry gets asked
- How long is the wait for a Spear skiff?
- There is always a line. Where you land in it depends on when you call. Harry builds 15 to 20 boats a year, two on the floor at a time, and he does not take an order he cannot give an honest delivery date for.
- What are the payment terms?
- Fifty percent by bank wire to start, which buys the materials and puts the boat in the queue, and fifty percent on delivery. Harry walks through all of it on the phone first, and no money moves until you have both talked.
- Does Spear Boatworks sell kits?
- Yes. A kit is a hull pulled from Harry's own molds with a cored transom and a cored floor already in it. It does not include materials, written instructions, or one-on-one build support. His build videos are free on his YouTube channel.
- Will Harry build a custom one-off?
- Yes. He has built one-offs and larger boats outside the standard models. He will also tell you if what you want is not what he builds, and lose the sale rather than sell you a boat you will not be happy with.
